WELCOME TO THE FUTURE GENERATION FUND
Somewhere, back in the early 1980s, Meir Abelson was inspired to start helping children in Jerusalem from underprivileged backgrounds. Decades later, what became known as the Future Generation Fund (FGF) has supported tens of thousands of children and thus also their respective families.Meir was a most unlikely hero – a former RAF pilot in the Second World War and recent immigrant, struggling to earn a decent living himself as a civil servant. He saw the obvious – that it does not always require large pools of money to make a significant difference to young person’s life. And this was all he need to get started. For historical reasons, much of the work of FGF has been directed to families of Sephardi origin, but nor exclusively. Typically, money has been provided for bus fares, extra tuition in core subjects, holiday activities, and emergency care. In more recent years, vocational training has demanded extra resources from FGF. These activities are fostered by a voluntary backroom staff, constantly striving to ensure that á little goes a long way’.
